Recently “Scientific American” published an article about whether or not your dog can reciprocate love. The final conclusion from the article was that, no, dogs don't love us and that it is all explained with behavioral science. As a dog owner since childhood, and I have had the good fortune of having a few really cool dogs, I think the article is wrong on two fundamental points.
I can't believe what I've read: This is from proponents of "traditional marriage" (what ever that is):
“The Court’s decision allows the executive branch to effectively veto any duly enacted law, simply by refusing to defend it against a constitutional challenge,” said Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council.
That doesn't actually paint the real picture. Within the states, challenges to state law are managed by the states, elevating internal state disputes to the supreme court is a violation of "states rights."

With the tragic events in our recent history, one is left to ask, how do we control the guns?
A lot of people just want an outright ban on assault weapons. This is a reasonable approach, but of questionable likelihood of success. The problem with a country of this size and diversity is that we MUST come to a consensus by compromise that everyone can accept.
The second amendment is a simple declaration: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"
20 Children and 6 adults were murdered today. I don't pray. I don't believe in god, and trust me this is not a reason why I don't, this is an event that makes one wish for a god who could have prevented it. Take a minute. Reflect. This sucks. Before the blow hards claim this event for their political agenda, lets think about it...
Many seemingly good people support some sort of prohibition toward the mocking of religions and/or its practitioners. On the surface, this sounds like a reasonable and polite way in which we can all "coexist" (We've all seen the bumper sticker.)
I've seen the term "Legitimate Rape" mentioned a few times in the last year or so. I wish I was paying more attention as I would be able to pin-point where I first heard it. Suffice to the last time I heard it, spoken was from Todd Akin, and here is the quote:
“It seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”

I find myself in a difficult position, I have to defend Rush Limbaugh. Seriously, is this what the world has come too? To understand why I have come to this I have to explain.

The word "Nigger" is a powerful word, but as a word, it's meaning is only offensive in its use. To any of my friends and family that are offended by this easy, I apologize: sometimes a common end requires that we take different paths. "Nigger," as used by Mark Twain was not an accident. The language in Huckleberry Finn was deliberate, as was most all of Twain's work. Satire and social comment was at the core of Clemens himself. "Nigger" was deliberate.
